Security, NY incident leave some unsettled after ‘Joker’ | MyTwinTiers
Moviegoer At Times Square Theater Reportedly Escorted Out Of ‘Joker’ Screening After Cheering On-Screen Murders | CBS New York
i apologize for the lack of archives. MyTwinteirs is apparently banned in the EU so it can't connect to the servers and CBS is taking forever to load.
anyway this past Friday afternoon the AMC 25 theater in Times Square security was called in too escort a man who disturbed other moviegoers for laughing at the voilence depicted in the film.
i originally thought it was an extreme overreaction over common theater rowdiness but upon further reading, it was the appropriate response to a common nuisance. this young man apparently spiked his own fountain drink with booze and got so loud and annoying at least two people left until security came. the most "violent" this man became was spitting at the people who left, which is classified as Assault under new York law.
you would think it is way worse and way scarier going by the above articles. they make the reason the people left was out of fear and people were stunned by someone taking enjoyment in (fictional) death.
the only witness they interviewed was the only one who claimed to be scared by this loud moviegoer and even they think it was a harmless drunk and was more influenced by the media circus surrounding the film.
what's more curious is how both these articles are so eerily similar down to using the same filler about how other theaters are handling fears of the film. i can't tell if it is due to another journopros list or this story is so devoid of relevance and importance they can't help but jump onto the same niche sources.
i have no idea what will come of this. hopefully people brush this off as nonsense but i am afraid it would be used for restricting behavior at theaters and use audience reactions as red flags. outside of luxury gimmicks like full-motion simulation my favorite part of the moviegoing experience is the rowdy audience reaction especially to bad but action-packed popcorn films which will have over the top violence that said the audience will cheer on.
