[SPOILERS] Chibnall’s era will be the hardest reset yet…

It just occurred to me, after watching Twice Upon a Time.

Chibnall really has a clean slate moving forward. And not just in terms of a new Doctor and new TARDIS.

Even Moffat, to some extent, was constrained by the way RTD left things. The Time Lords were still gone. The Time War still got the occasional mention, as did the Doctor's legacy of genocide against his own people. Eventually, that culminated in the 50th anniversary special, and Time of the Doctor – the latter of which revealed that Eleven's entire arc was ultimately about the fallout from the larger myth-arc of NuWho – namely, the Time War.

Moving into Twelve's era – while Twelve didn't really have a myth-arc as such, for his first two seasons at least, it was concerned with the fallout of Eleven's story. Namely, where is Gallifrey? That question finally got answered in Series 9 – along with other loose ends like River Song.

Chibnall on the other hand, doesn't have to deal with the Time War, or the fallout of RTD and Moffat's runs, AT ALL. There are no loose ends. No baggage.

The status quo he has in fact is pretty much the status quo of Classic Who. Gallifrey is back. The Time Lords are back and, more likely than not, consider the Doctor a renegade again. The Time War is a distant memory. The Doctor doesn't have any particular obligations or baggage from the past now. She's even going to have multiple companions again – much in the vein of the Classic era at times!
