Phantoml0rd threatening legal action against the mods of this subreddit

Hello, we would like to make everyone aware that PhantomL0rd has reached out to us regarding this post, and has threatened legal action against /r/LivestreamFail if it is left up. We would like to respond to PhantomL0rd’s complaints in an open letter format.

PhantomL0rd, you seem to be citing the “Do not threaten, harass, or bully” global reddit rule located under their content policy. This policy reads as such:

We do not tolerate the harassment of people on our site, nor do we tolerate communities dedicated to fostering harassing behavior.

Harassment on Reddit is defined as systematic and/or continued actions to torment or demean someone in a way that would make a reasonable person conclude that Reddit is not a safe platform to express their ideas or participate in the conversation, or fear for their safety or the safety of those around them.

Being annoying, vote brigading, or participating in a heated argument is not harassment, but following an individual or group of users, online or off, to the point where they no longer feel that it's safe to post online or are in fear of their real life safety is.

One post regarding your new gambling site does not qualify as “systemic or continued actions to torment or demean someone.” Nor does this post “cause you to fear for your safety or the safety of those around you.” No personal information, or anything that could be considered “doxxing” is included in this publicly streamed clip.

This post also does not qualify under “following an individual or group of users, online or off, to the point where they no longer feel that it's safe to post online or are in fear of their real life safety is.” Again, no one is following you in real life from the content of this post, and no real life information has been included.

The /r/LivestreamFail mods would suggest to you, PhantomL0rd, that if you wish to pursue your business ventures free of judgement from the greater reddit community, or the community of /r/LivestreamFail specifically, that you don’t stream yourself interacting with your gambling site directly.

We are also curious why you didn’t cite the post under libel, a la the ongoing Flightsim malware situation, but that’s your prerogative, or perhaps you don’t think the claim that you’re creating another site meant to scam users is a false one.

If you see any information that can be considered personally identifiable information, or threats against your person, feel free to reach out to us again, as the mods here are very strict when it comes to following the global reddit rules regarding personal information and threatening, harassing, or inciting violence against others.

We would also like to point you to this section under the reddit user agreement regarding moderators, specifically this part:

When you receive notice that there is content that violates this user agreement on subreddits you moderate, you agree to remove it

We have received no notice from the reddit admins regarding the clip, and we invite you to message them directly about your content being posted here if you have actual, legitimate concerns, rather than in a PM sent directly to the subreddit’s owner, which is not an official channel for having posts removed.

My approach to Neverwinter. Tips that may help new players from a new player.

Quick Preface: I am by no means an expert Neverwinter player at all, I started maybe about 2 months ago. I have two level 70 characters and have played enough that I can at least provide some basic encouragement to new players grappling the start of end game content. Note these are not tips to help you gain an advantage. The points I make are very basic and more of a philosophy that I personally follow to get enjoyment out of this game.

I am absolutely loving Neverwinter, I have played a ton of mmorpgs even as far back as Everquest and I already know Neverwinter is starting to become one of my favorites thus far. Lets be honest though… Neverwinter is pretty much the "fast food restaurant" equivalent of mmorpgs, its delicious but at the same time terrible for you. Only difference is you won't be getting your "food" fast in this game. The endgame grind is daunting and perhaps even insanity inducing so here are a few simple ways I approach this game to keep it from being less annoying than it needs to be.

  1. Have patience: This game is much more about the journey and reward of having an optimally built character not about what there is to do once you get there. The developers do a pretty good job at making it appear that there is some kind of urgency towards getting everything fast but its completely unnecessary. By the time your decked out and have the highest possible Item level, your character is none other than a glorified trophy. My advice: invest in your character as much as possible from a roleplaying perspective, you don't have to be some kind of "Teleports right behind you with katana drawn" type of roleplayer but creating and secretly following what I call a "Head Lore" can be a lot of fun. Who are you and what do you want to be? How do you want other players to perceive you?
  2. The Rule of COOL: Grinding to get all your gear, companions, mounts, and enchantments is a lot of work but its all pointless if your not having fun. I follow "the rule of cool" Treat yourself sometimes, if you see a mount or fashion piece that you think looks cool for your character dont be afraid to get it. I just payed 50k for a fashion piece last night, was it a waste of diamonds? possibly, but I love every bit of how it has changed my character.
  3. Don't spend Zen on traps: There are a lot of trap items on the zen market, they are high cost and provide little benefit. I can't list them all but one example that may be tempting is xp boosters. The one that gets you to 60 twice as fast is 900 zen, not too shabby perse but the one that gets you to 70 twice as fast is unbelievably bonkers at 5000 zen when getting from 60-70 takes a couple days at most. Your number one focus is VIP the rewards speak for themselves. If you must spend zen on other things spend it on services you need like bank slots, character slots, active companions etc…
  4. 500K Diamonds: This is a somewhat strict personal rule I follow that may seem weird to some. I always keep a supply of 500,000 diamonds on me at all times and I try not to dip below this point too much. At minimum i will try to always have 100k if i must. Why? Its psychological. I find that I tend to make less financial mistakes when I have a set amount I am not allowed to exceed. That, and it feels good to have that money there for some reason. Try it out, it works for me, it may work for you.
  5. Be good to people: There are enough toxic people in this game, we don't need anymore. If your pug healer can't keep your team up dont rant or curse to everyone because it makes you angry. What difference does it make really? Maybe its just me, but I enjoy making the game fun for other people by being kind, thoughtful, and likeable. If your an adult playing this game, just remember there are likely a lot of kids who play far younger than you and this could quite possibly be the first mmorpg they have ever touched, be cool to the little runts you were their age at one time too.

Edit: Wow, Reddit gold, I am quite flattered and honored you think so highly of my post, thank you very much and thank you for other positive responses from the people subscribed to this subreddit.

[RANT] I’m quitting organizing games for conventions

I've been an organizer for Organized Play events for the local conventions for several years now. The indie gamemasters don't need organization (they either show and run, or they don't) but for Organized Play campaigns (Adventurers League, Pathfinder Society, etc.), something always has to go off. Sometimes people show up with six players and want to play something not even on the schedule, and we try to accommodate them. It's stressful, but I've felt like I was helping something cool to go off properly.

But the last several years, it seems like all of the crap rolls either downhill or uphill to me. The management has reduced us to a total of 4 rooms for 24 – 36 DMs. Instead of upping the rooms based on the number of DMs I need, they want me to increase the number of slots DMs have to run in order to get a spot in a room (currently at 6 slots, which is half the convention).

From the other end, I have coordinators who put their significant others on the "staff" roster for free badges and room space; who promise DMs room space for running two or three slots, since they're "friends of the campaign;" and who submit everything late — schedules and judge lists come to me anywhere from a few days after my deadline up to four days before the convention. The only bright spot is, although my up-front budget is $0, I've been able to get reimbursed for expenses (printing modules and handouts, posters, etc.) after the convention by submitting an itemized receipt; however, my coordinators have not come back to me with their expenses, and then complain that they never got any money back.

In return for my coordinating efforts, I've received a badge, a t-shirt, and crash space. Well, I haven't played in a game at a convention in years (too busy), and the t-shirts aren't that great, and I am too old to share a convention room with five other gamers — I'd rather sleep in my own bed.

So, this coming weekend is our big summer convention. I'm telling them I'm done, and suggesting a few people they could ask to take my place, more organized than myself and hopefully with thicker skins. I've got nothing left in the tank to give away in return for aggravation and stress.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I needed to get my feelings off of my chest.
