I’m using DnD to help with my grief/depression while reconnecting with old friends and it’s amazing

Almost two years ago, I suffered a terrible loss. My childhood best friend and cousin died unexpectedly in a car crash. This completely destroyed my world. He was the one that always believed in me, pushed me as an artist, writer, and person. I lost my job that I had fought hard to get, due to business closure so not even my own fault. I fell into a deep depression. I lost who I was, days blended into each other. Months would pass me without notice. I laid in bed, barely existing for almost a year. I was able to get a different old job back, it paid less but it and the people were familiar. I was… coping.

Last month I moved, away from a terrible living situation and bad memories to somewhere completely new. I recently gathered together a bunch of old friends and acquaintances for me to DM a campaign online. I've only been DM once and it was irl. It was not long before I moved but when I was still in the grief fog. Everyone loved the few sessions I ran, so I really hope it goes well. I'm currently building the world map in inkarnate.

Also, all the people I chose are people going through difficulties in their lives, though some very different. They don't know this. I love watching them interact and share cute pics and seeing them interact happily. Just seeing them open up has helped my mental health immensely. Community is a real thing. I feel a part of something for the first time in a long time.

tl;dr After grieving someone extremely important to me for 2 years, I'm DMing an online group of friends and acquaintances that are also going through different types of hard times. I feel like it's a help to them, but I know it's helping me. I can't wait to actually start.
