Why did DC and Marvel comics stop targeting to kids and general audiences and start aiming more at teens and adults?
There have been claims that comics are no longer for children but for adults. Comics are no longer even targeted at children, but more at an older crowd to consume. To some people this is blasphemous, like why would they ruin the innocence of superheroes. To some people it makes sense. Yet, to some people the idea of reading a comic is juvenile. Even though DC and Marvel were originally targeted to a general audience. Which is it? Are the DC and Marvel comics still juvenile and they have an oder audience. or are comics no longer targeting children which is why the audience age now skews a big older than one would expect. And why did DC and Marvel start getting more mature in the 70s and 80s by adding adult content to their stories that are not appropiate for young children? Help me understand, because the correct answer to my question is nowhere to be found.
