If Tony Stark is considered dead whilst being a backup, so should Peter Parker.
So if I understand this correctly… Written by Dan Slott; In Civil War 2, Carol killed Tony and what is living on is a backup in a new body. But for all intents and purposes, Tony Stark is dead. Sad.
Whilst I don't mind seeing where the story goes, I do have to wonder- as it's something I've wondered since the end of Superior Spider-Man- if Tony Stark being a backup means he is dead, surely the same should apply for Peter as well?
The Peter Parker who died in Amazing Spider-Man 700 was, I feel, the original Peter Parker. He is the one that experienced everything from his birth up until the mind swap, and then had further experiences before he died as a result of being in Doc Ocks deteriorating body.
The Peter Parker that returns at the end of Superior Spidey isn't that Peter Parker. It's a construct of memories that is gathered from the memory of Doc Ock resisting the memories of the original Peter Parker which is a bit wild as a concept. But overall- it's a bunch of memories. It's not the original Peter Parker. That guy died.
It is the original body so it's got that going for him, but it's always bugged me that Peter experienced no angst from essentially dying and with the knowledge he's a back-up. Also, Peter still has Doc Ocks memories in his head ready to be unlocked if he wants them, but that's another issue.
